Plan of Action

Tuesday, December 5, 2006
With the recent tragedy of Sean Bell, the black community is banding together to plan a course of action. We may be fighting a war oversees, but there is a war on the home front falling under the radar. The December 12th Movement organization is in preparation for their efforts against police brutality. The group is leading a rally to "Resist Fascism and the Rise of the American Police State," this Wednesday in NYC. City officials, community activists and community residents will speak about their outrage and what needs to be done to alleviate the problem, not only for this situation but to prevent it from occurring again. The hip-hop community has also come together, with the likes of Nas and Papoose, to lend financial support to the families of the victims, and also shed light with their music. RO

50 cent vs. Oprah

Monday, December 4, 2006
Let's get ready to rumble! 50 Cent has been known to beef with a few people, but this time he is taking aim at the Queen of all media, Oprah Winfrey. He was quoted as saying, "She started out with black women's views but has been catering to middle-aged white American women's views for so long that she's become one herself." Though, 50 is not the only one with critical views of Oprah. Many other rappers have also said Oprah has no respect for rap music and the craft. And Oprah has made her negative views of rap music, due to their exploitation of women in the black community very clear. With his album Self Destruct getting ready to be released early next year, you can't help but wonder if 50 is pulling a publicity stunt. Considering he has been under the radar, stirring up some controversy with Oprah is a sure way to gain some attention. Then again, he should probably pick on someone on his own level! RO
